Meet the Winner of The Faoileánach Journal National Poetry Month Cash Prize!

The Faoileánach Journal had the opportunity to offer a very special cash prize to one writer whose work embodied the journal's ethos: a place to gather, a jumping off point, and a place to safely return at sunset. Our choice was author Carma, whose work, My Little Constellations (of which you can read a snippet here), delves into personal identity, family, and ancestry with warmth, grace, and truth.

What Melanie Said: “[She] melded the lyricism of poetry with the romanticism of memoir and made it personal without keeping it out of the reader's hands. It was just a special work.”

Carma is a writer, poet, and horticulturist exploring Black queer life through radical honesty, ancestral spirituality, and everyday moments. Her work weaves personal and collective histories, shaped by music, film, food, and political thought. She currently resides in London, United Kingdom.
